Q: Who oversees the IGs?
A: IGs serve under the general supervision of the agency head with a dual and independent reporting relationship to the agency head and to the Congress. Given this and the IG's unique mission and role in an agency, agency heads generally work to establish effective communications with their IGs, and include them as part of the management team.
Allegations of misconduct against an IG should be referred to the Integrity Committee that is chaired by a representative of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is a part of the President's Council on Integrity and Efficiency.
