AFTER LEAVING GOVERNMENT

"A politician would do well to remember that he has to live with his conscience longer than he does with his constituents." -- Melvin Laird

What restrictions apply after I leave Government service?
There are some criminal laws that will apply to you after you leave your Government position. These post-employment restrictions do not prohibit you from working for any particular employer but they do limit some of the activities you may undertake in your new job. The rules are designed to prevent you from "switching sides" on a matter after you leave Government.

There are additional post-employment rules that apply specifically to people involved in Government procurement activities. Before leaving Government, you should discuss with your agency's ethics official how the post-employment restrictions will apply to you.
