Regime Crimes Liaison, U.S. Embassy in Iraq
Christopher Reid, the Regime Crimes Liaison at the United States Embassy in Baghdad, coordinates Coalition support for the Iraq High Tribunal, which is currently trying Saddam Hussein and others for crimes against humanity, and leads a team of legal, investigative, forensics, security and logistics specialists assisting the Tribunal.
Reid has been in Iraq since March of 2004. Before joining the Regime Crimes Liaison's Office, he spent six months teaching human rights to Iraqi corrections officers in prisons around Baghdad as part of a DOJ/ICITAP program. Reid opened and headed the Regime Crimes Liaison's Office's first field office, which was based in northern Iraq and investigated the Anfal campaign, the attack on Halabja and other atrocities against the Kurds. Upon returning to Baghdad in March of 2005, Reid became the Deputy Regime Crimes Liaison. The Attorney General named Reid the Regime Crimes Liaison on August 1, 2005.
Reid is a native of New Hampshire where he has served as Governor's Legal Counsel, a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, and Senior Assistant Attorney General. He has worked in Washington as Associate Independent Counsel in the matter or Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt, and on temporary assignment as Deputy Special Counsel to the United States Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, where he assisted Chairman Ted Stevens on federalism issues.
Reid is a graduate of Brown University, has a law degree, cum laude, from the Georgetown University Law Center, and received his M.P.A. from the John F. Kennedy School of Government.
