OMB Commends GovBenefits.gov for 2002 Grace Hopper Government Technology Leadership Award
Washington D.C. - Together with the Department of Labor (DOL), the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) commends GovBenefits.gov, a web site designed to facilitate the interaction between individuals and government, for being honored with Government Executive magazine’s 2002 Grace Hopper Government Technology Leadership Award.
”Through GovBenefits.gov citizens and social workers can easily locate a broad range of services that match their needs. The Grace Hopper Award highlights the work of the GovBenefits.gov team and we commend them for their hard work in simplifying government bureaucracy,“ said Mark Forman, Associate Director for Information Technology and E-Government of the Office of Management and Budget.
A panel of government experts in federal technology advancement selected GovBenefits.gov, with 9 other projects in different categories, among 140 nominees for the 2002 Grace Hopper Award. GovBenefits.gov was honored for providing individuals and enterprises with access to useful government information. The site will be recognized at the 11th annual presentation of these awards today.
GovBenefits.gov, as an integral part of the President’s Management Agenda, consolidates information formerly found on thousands of web pages into a one-stop shop for citizens to learn if they may be eligible to receive government benefits. The web site allows users to answer a short series of simple, yes-no questions, then returns a list of federal benefit programs for which they may be eligible.
The Department of Labor serves as the managing partner of the project, which is the collaborative effort of 10 federal agencies.
E-Government is an integral part of the President’s Management Agenda to make it easier for citizens and businesses to interact with the government, save taxpayer dollars and streamline citizen-to-government transactions.
