Mrs. Bush to Travel to California, Hawaii and Midway Atoll
Mrs. Bush will travel to California, Honolulu, Hawaii and Midway Atoll on February 28 to March 2, 2007. In California, she will participate in a Roundtable on Heart Health for the Heart Truth's Red Dress Campaign at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. She will also participate in a National Park Service Junior Ranger event to highlight the National Parks Centennial Challenge. Mrs. Bush will then travel with Council on Environmental Quality Chairman James Connaughton to tour Midway Atoll and Honolulu, Hawaii, where she will visit the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Marine National Monument, and increase public awareness of one of this Nation's most exceptional marine ecosystems. The Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Marine National Monument represents the largest single conservation area in our Nation's history and the largest protected marine area in the world, eclipsing Australia's Great Barrier Reef. This area contains 2.7 million acres of coral reef, 14 million nesting seabirds, and 250 fish species; in total it includes about 7000 species, a quarter of which exist no where else on Earth.
