Iraq's Governing Council Pledges to Fight Corruption
Iraq Fact of the Day
The Iraqi Governing Council has established a Commission on Public Integrity. This new independent body will be dedicated to enforcing ethical standards for public servants and fighting corruption. The Commission will receive anonymous complaints from citizens, investigate allegations of corruption, and refer violations to Iraq's court system for prosecution. The Governing Council also announced that all government employees will be required to sign a Code of Conduct and all senior officials must file annual financial disclosures. The Commission is an important step toward establishing a transparent, modern democracy in Iraq.
