Rear Admiral Craig E. Bone
Former Director of Inspection & Compliance, U.S. Coast Guard
Rear Admiral Craig E. Bone was serving as the Director of the Inspection & Compliance Directorate at U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters, Washington, D.C. As Director of Inspections and Compliance, he oversaw the offices of Boating Safety, Auxiliary, Vessels Activities, Port & Facility Activities, Investigations Analysis, Traveling Inspectors, the National Maritime Center and the National Vessel Documentation Center. Previously Rear Admiral Bone served as the Director of Port Security.
Prior to reporting to Coast Guard Headquarters Rear Admiral Craig E. Bone served as the Chief of Staff for the Fourteenth Coast Guard District headquartered in Honolulu. The Fourteenth District oversees Coast Guard missions of responsibility spanning more than 12.2 million square miles of land and sea in the central Pacific Ocean. Coast Guard missions include search and rescue, maritime homeland security, marine safety and environmental protection, maritime law enforcement and waterways management.
Rear Admiral Bone served as Captain of the Port New York/New Jersey and Commander of Coast Guard Activities New York. He has also served as Chief, Officer Personnel Management Division, Coast Guard Personnel Command, Washington, D.C. Immediately prior to that assignment, Captain Bone served as the Office of Marine Safety, Security, and Environmental Protection Chief, Office of Waterways Management, Planning and Policy.
A 1977 graduate of the U. S. Coast Guard Academy, Rear Admiral Bone began his Coast Guard career as a deck watch officer aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton (WHEC 715) in Boston, Mass. He entered the marine safety field in 1979 serving in a variety of positions at Marine Safety Offices as well as Washington, D.C., and has served as an overseas Marine Inspector of U.S. flagged vessels under construction and operating in Japan, Singapore, Korea, and Hong Kong.
Detailed to the Senate Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee in 1994 he supported review and analysis of Department of Transportation budget and legislative efforts. While serving as Commanding Officer, Marine Safety Office Savannah, Georgia (1995-97) he planned and executed all waterside security for the 1996 Olympics and served as the Coast Guards 1996 Olympics Deputy Task Force Commander.
Rear Admiral Bone holds two advanced degrees, a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University Industrial College of the Armed Forces and a Master of Science in Information Systems Technology from George Washington University.
